We sat down with Gloria Sanchez, director and founder of Tailored Living Interiors, and had a chat about outdoor spaces. Gloria is trained as an interior designer, and have a keen eye for the tendencies in the design and interior field. We asked Gloria her opinion on outdoor spaces and what demands and requirements she has when looking for garden furniture, here is what we learned.
Do you believe that the perception of the outdoor space has changed after the pandemic?
"The pandemic made the final push us into taking action towards improving the garden. Our original garden was very impractical and the design did not suit our lifestyle. After the renovation the garden, we have gained an extra room in the house and an extra dimension to our property. I come from the South of Spain where there is always warm and sunny. Despite the weather conditions in the UK, I am happy that I can now use and enjoy my garden to its fullest."
Can you describe any trends within outdoor spaces?
"If there is anything that we have learned during the Covid 19 pandemic, it is to value our homes more than ever before. Multiple sources claim that people are spending more time at home than before the pandemic. The garden is an integral part of the home. We see many great investments being made towards improving these areas. I think this trend is going to continue and we will see people trying to create an extra room in their garden. Outdoor spaces can be made cosier with great light features, heating and even rugs to replicate that indoor cosiness. The future of garden design, I believe we will be seeing more bar areas, outdoor kitchens, pizza ovens and even bringing the cinema outdoors!"
What are your demands and requirements, when looking for garden furniture?
"Quality and design. The furniture not only has to look amazing, but it must be able to withstand the outdoor weather throughout every season. I had no doubt when choosing furniture for my garden that Cane-line was my top choice. My line of work is Luxury Residential Interior Design. Nevertheless, occasionally clients ask us to help them with the outdoor space or a balcony."
How would you describe your outdoor space?
"The garden is a modern/contemporary space with different levels creating different zones for eating, lounging and relaxing. The different levels create an interesting layout, despite all these small spaces the garden still did not feel smaller. It actually felt bigger than it did before. When designing any interior, we often choose clean lines, because they creates a more pleasant and comfy living space. I extrapolated this philosophy into my garden design and the Cane-line furniture perfectly complemented the style. Interior and garden design can massively impact how we feel both physically and mentally. Certain elements awaken positive or negative feelings in people. Our garden has a great feel to it whether we use it for entertaining, privately for relaxing or for intimate family events."
How did you hear about Cane-line?
"I was introduced to Cane-line for the first time by a client about 6 years ago. The client had a house in Spain and they had left their Cane-line furniture with no covers outside for a full winter. The following summer, the furniture was still in great condition. We loved Cane-line designs too and have been using it for other projects since. For us as designers, it is important to recommend a product that we know is of the highest quality and incredibly resistant".
